the Bloodhorse is reporting 27 horses dead. I'm sure its difficult until all are accounted for- so sad.

An early morning fire at Charlestown burned three barns to the ground and killed as many as 41 horses- although I've heard several different numbers so far. RIP all those who were lost. :(

And not good news I'm afraid. I noticed that no one posted that Timber Reserve broke down and was euthanized at Saratoga last week. RIP, he was such a gorgeous horse. And Majesticperfection suffered a condylar fracture today, he will undergo surgery but will never race again. What a crappy year for ...

I also look for a horse that is well balanced- try this- look at a picture of a horse (that is standing square) and draw mental lines from the point of the hock and the point of the shoulder. If your lines intersect right over the middle of the back, you have a well balanced horse.

Treet- Secretariat was 16.2 and so is Curlin, actually, and Zenyatta is just over 17 hands- thats only a little over 2 inches difference.

Secretariats stride was officially recorded at the 25.2, but Penny Chenery will tell you that he was NOT in full stride the day that was done, and that she has ALWAYS believed his stride to be more like 26 ft.
